Craft Skills

There are a wide range of skills employed in the built heritage industry – from working with stone, timber, plasters and paints to fine finishes and ornamental work. However, the wealth of experience is increasingly held within a diminishing workforce of skilled and experienced craftspeople, so it is essential that their knowledge is passed on to the next generation.

BCCF expects to offer training in the following:

  • Stonemasonry
  • Carpentry
  • Lead work
  • Heritage brick work
  • Flint work (knapping)
  • Plastering
  • Ironwork
  • Glass

amongst many others.

Those who specify built heritage work also need to experience the hands-on dimension of the sector to strengthen and broaden their own understanding.

We aim to bring the two sides of the Industry together in one educational framework which will be wholly inclusive of those starting out, those changing direction and those wishing to forge a career in the sector.

BCCF will provide the workshop space, the people and the sites to underpin this unique way of working.
